Working for the World – SOAR Discussion Guide
Senior Pastor Chee-Seng FAH, Sunday 9th July
Vision
To build disciples who represents Jesus to everyone, everywhere with everything
Previous Obedience Step
One of the key values in discipleship is hearing and obeying the Word. Therefore, it is important to have accountability to one another for our step of obedience from studying the Word. Spend the first part of your discussion asking – how did your step of obedience go from last time we met?
Scripture
Read 1 Samuel 3:1 – 21
Observation
- What do these passages tell us about God?
- What do these passages tell us about you and your life?
- What did you like about this passage?
- What did you not like about this passage?
Application
For us to represent Jesus at work can be challenging but God has given us the Holy Spirit to empower us. The promise of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18 – 20) is that He is with us through the Holy Spirit not as a passive presence, but a dynamic and communicating presence in our lives.
Discuss one or more of the following questions:
- Ps Chee shared that Samuel moved from religion to relationship when he began experiencing God speaking to Him directly. Share some of your experiences when you first began to learn how to listen and obey the Holy Spirit.
- The Holy Spirit communicates to us in a variety of ways. Describe some of the various ways in which you have experienced listening to the Holy Spirit.
- One of the great challenges to obedience is to know if your ‘prompting’ was from the Holy Spirit. What filter do you use to discern if your ‘prompting’ is from the Holy Spirit?
- Describe some of the things you’ve learnt about God experientially when you stepped out in faith and obeyed the Holy Spirit.
Response
- Is there a truth that God wants you to obey?
- What will you do to obey this? I will…
