SERMON SUMMARY

We all go through seasons when life wears us out. It’s difficult to avoid seasons of weariness, but what is important is how we walk with God when we are in that season. We explored the life of Elijah in 1 Kings 19:1-19 and how God helped Elijah move from a place of weariness into flourishing. Ps Chee shared four principles:

1. Get Rest & Care (1 Kings 19:5-7) – God wants us to care for ourselves but not live for ourselves

2. Seek God (1 Kings 19:8-9)- seek rest in God and not from God

3. Find the Why (1 Kings 19:9-14) – sometimes we don’t know what we need rest from

4. Hear and Obey (1 Kings 19:15-19) – from weariness to flourishing

DISCUSSION

Read 1 Kings 19:1-19

Discuss one or more of the following questions:

1. Share with one another a season of weariness in your life. Discuss some of the signs that warn you that you are in that season. How did God help you through that season?

2. God wants us to care for ourselves, but not live for ourselves. Have there been times when you have been confused between the two? Why is physical rest and care important in helping you find internal rest?

3. Ps Chee shared that sometimes we don’t give ourselves permission to rest because we are not comfortable with our own humanity. Can you identify that in your life? Discuss.

4. What does it mean for you to seek rest in God and not from God? In what ways have you done both in your seasons of weariness?

5. What are some of the familiar places or Scriptures where you’ve encountered God ministering to your weariness? Describe your encounters.

6. It is important to find the why for our weariness because sometimes we don’t know what we need rest from. Can you share some of those things in your heart that God has addressed which helped you identify the cause of your weariness? (e.g. inability to say no, self-importance, carrying unhealthy responsibility, feelings of inferiority etc)

7. How has God spoken to those issues of the heart that has enabled you to move from weariness to flourishing?

8. What is one thing you can put into action this week?
