Observation

  • What is the key message of this passage? Explain why you think so?
  • What does this passage tell us about God?
  • Are there truths in this passage that contradicts your own thinking about God, self or the world?

Application

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest love story ever. It is the story of our relationship with a holy, loving God that was broken by sin.  It is the story of a God who pursues us even to the point of sending Jesus to die on the cross in order to rescue us and restore that relationship. Our God is also a loving father and through Jesus Christ He provides the way for us to join His family and be called His children.  When Jesus died on the cross he also destroyed the works of the devil.  The devil came to kill, steal, and destroy. Jesus came to bring life, freedom, and restoration to our lives and our relationship with God.  This is how much God loves us.  Now that’s a love story!

Discuss one or more of the following questions:

  1. Which baptism testimony did you relate to and what aspects of God’s character shone through these testimonies?
  2. What do you understand by the term ‘baptism’ (see Colossians 2:12-14) and if you have not been baptised what is holding you back?
  3. What is an analogy of the Gospel that you can easily relate to? Was there one in the sermon that stood out for you and why?
  4. How does the Gospel story draw out characteristics of Jesus that we should be emulating?
  5. 1 John 3:1-9 tells us that God calls us His children, what does this mean for you personally and how are you living out this truth every day?
  6. What does being on ‘God’s team’ look like and what part do you play in His team?
