SERMON SUMMARY
We want to believe we are courageous enough to lay down our life for our faith; but are we willing to submit our everyday moments to God? Daniel’s everyday life was a dedication to God. What we see in Daniel is not so much someone willing to die for their faith, but rather, a picture of someone who was willing to give every part of his life to God – his work, his prayer, his social life, and even his diet. Sometimes we imagine that we would be asked to give up our lives and dramatically defend our faith. But in reality, standing up to our own apathy, lethargy and indifference may be our biggest obstacle.
SERMON DISCUSSION
Read Daniel 6:6-13
Discuss one or more of the following questions:
1. When you read Daniel’s response to King Darius’ new law, what stands out to you? What would you have done?
2. Ps Kyle said that perhaps our biggest obstacles to being faithful is not so much the big, dramatic moments where we have to defend or die for our faith, but rather, standing firm in the little things. Have you ever had a situation – big or small – where you had to stand firm for your faith? What happened?
3. Daniel dedicated every part of his life to God – His work, his prayer life, his social life, and even his diet. In your own life, what areas do you find easiest to dedicate to God? What areas do you find the hardest to dedicate to God?
4. Sometimes we romanticise this idea of defending our faith. But in reality, it can be our own apathy, lethargy or indifference that may be our biggest obstacle. As you think about your own relationships, daily rhythms, health, how you make decisions, spend your time etc, what are some of your biggest obstacles in dedicating these areas to God?
5. What are one or two small areas that you want to be more intentional in dedicating to God? What is God asking you to do about this?
